Hands on – to improve range of movement and reduce pain:
When pain and protective spasm limit movement, mobilizing the joint by using a series of specific accessory movements helps to improve joint range of movement and reduce pain. If pain is the dominant

Myofascial release – relieves pain by combining compression and movement:
Myofascial release is a type of bodywork that helps to relieve
pain, break-up scar-tissue, lengthen muscles and eliminate nerve impingement, by combining compression and movement to reduce inflammation and pain.

Rehabilitation Pilates
I

recognised the success that has been achieved in other parts of the world by fusing Pilates exercise regimes with sports medicine for rehabilitation programmes. World-class athletes and international sportsmen and women are now adopting Pilates classes and theWorld’s leading centres of excellence in sport medicine are

stressing the importance of Pilates and the benefits of the key principles of the exercises, both mat- and apparatus-based in the field of athletic and sports training.

My programme of continued personal professional  development has now included qualifications in Rehabilitation Pilates through the Australian Physiotherapy & Pilates Institute (APPI), the world’s leading force in post-graduate Pilates instruction.

I am delighted to be offering this in my specially built Pilates studio using the Reformer apparatus - specialist equipment sourced from the US - and other mat-based exercise disciplines.

Kinesio Taping® – taping that cuts sport injury recovery times:

Kinesio Taping is an effective treatment for muscle/joint dysfunction. The Kinesio Taping method involves taping over and around muscles to assist and give support and prevent over-contraction. The special tape used is different to other athletic tapes as it is designed to give support whilst maintaining full range of motion, and facilitates lymphatic flow 24 hours a day. This key feature allow athletes to continue their training and sporting activities despite injury. The method is extensively used within America and Asia, and it is now being introduced to Europe through specially qualified therapists in hospitals, clinics, universities, schools, and by professional sports teams.

  • Relieves pain

  • Supports muscles in movement
  • Removes lymphatic fluid congestion
  • Corrects joint mis-alignment
  • Assists in positioning a muscle or joint into proper position for rehabilitation
  • Assists a weak muscle by placing it in a normal position
  • Improves kinesthetic awareness of posture and alignment

Sports deep tissue massage – prevents injuries and aids recovery:
Sports deep tissue massage is a form of bodywork geared towards participants in sport. It is used to prevent injuries, to prepare the body for athletic activity, and maintain optimal condition, and to help athletes recover from workouts and injury.

The restoration to normal functional activity is improved through mobilizing and improving muscle tone promoting relaxation, stimulating circulation and the removal of lactic acid build-up and improving lymphatic drainage. This treatment restores the muscles to optimal sporting function and improved performance.

Pre-event massage – to warm and stimulate muscles to reduce tension:
Pre-Event Massage is given before the athlete competes. It consists of brisk strokes to stimulate and warm the muscles and to reduce muscle tension. As massage progresses the strokes increase in pressure. The part of the body massaged varies from sport to sport although leg and back muscles are common targets for this type of massage.

Post-event massage – prevents injury by calming muscles and releasing toxins:
Post-Event Massage is given 1-2 hours after competition in order to give the dilated blood vessels a chance to return to their normal condition. Post event massage is light and gentle in order not to damage the already stressed muscles. The goal is to speed up the removal of toxic waste products and reduce swelling.

Maintenance – usually once a week while in training to relax muscles and reduce risk of injury:
Performed once a week while the athlete is in training. This is frequently applied to the back and the legs. The massage is used to relax and tone knotted muscles and to reduce injury.
